ABSTRACT

 

       The aluminum extrusion is a process of shaping aluminum by forcing it through a die aperture. The die which is a thick circular disk is an intricate part of the extrusion process such that the resulting shape or form of the extruded profile is caused by the shape and size of the orifice.

       In this project, the AED team would design and develop a single die which would produce profiles having both hollow and solid features which can be used in the electronics, automotive, aluminum framing industries. The die is manufactured from 2344 steel which meets all AISI H13 standards for hot work tool steels and is heat treated to improve hardness, wear resistance and thermal shock resistance to the desired levels. The die is made up of two separate part dies accurately designed, modeled and manufactured with the required standards.
